Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Cowboys spent the 188th pick on KJ Jefferson, a name the board had a full 123 spots lower.
However the rest shakes out, Henderson at that price is a win they earned. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. Need was not the driver here.
They paid a round early for Jordan James in pick No. 44, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
Malaki Starks in No. 76 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They barely believed it either: Jeffrey Bassa still on the board at Round 5, Pick 12. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
TreVeyon Henderson at slot 169 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Devin Neal in the Round 5 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Terrance Ferguson in the 171st overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A wild overpay on KJ Jefferson in pick 188, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A clean, defensible pick in No. 209 with a little surplus value in Bryce Foster. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
