After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. J.J. McCarthy is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. However the rest shakes out, Hopper at that price is a win they earned. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want.
In the end it comes back to J.J. McCarthy, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 24 they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Tyler Guyton went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A tidy bit of business in pick 68, where T.J. Tampa graded well above the range. A minor itch, scratched.
No edge and no loss on Maason Smith in the 103rd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A conviction pick on Luke McCaffrey at Round 5, Pick 1 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They read the board right and Braiden McGregor was the payoff at the Round 6 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
