Every other box got a look, but wide receiver did not. The Dolphins will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with.
The Smith-Wade steal is the beam this whole class leans on. If Jackson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
They did well to land Patrick Paul in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They took Javon Bullard at par in pick No. 64, which is nothing to complain about. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Christian Mahogany in the 80th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Khyree Jackson at Round 3, Pick 32 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They paid sticker price for Tyrice Knight in pick 116, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jordan Travis in slot 133 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Chau Smith-Wade at the 176th overall pick is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Roger Rosengarten in No. 186 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Emani Bailey. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Magee at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A straight-up fair deal on Darius Muasau at the 239th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
