Call it larceny. Noah Fifita sat on the board until pick No. 232, and the Packers did not need to be asked twice. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
The cost of the Martinez reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Luther Burden III at pick No. 36 is the proof. A need, and now a little less of one.
They jumped the gun on Jack Nelson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A quarterback of that caliber at the 163rd overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No drama and no debate, Hunter Wohler went about where he belonged in slot 186. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They talked themselves into Damien Martinez at Round 6, Pick 27, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board fumbled Noah Fifita all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Anthony Belton at the 243rd pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Justin Walley. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
