You could see the war room lean forward. Cam Skattebo at the Round 7 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. If Dellinger pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.
The DK Metcalf pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get juice off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jalon Walker at slot 50 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Steal is underselling it; Colston Loveland at the 69th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Xavier Watts in pick No. 77 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board fumbled TreVeyon Henderson all the way to No. 104, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jake Majors in the 143rd pick, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A running back of that caliber at pick 217 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They reached into another round for Garrett Dellinger, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
