The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

However the rest shakes out, Beebe at that price is a win they earned. The Patriots indulged a want in Stover while a need in edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots stayed open.

The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Reaching for Laube left real value on the table behind him.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.3 · Pick 3 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 7
In pick No. 3 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 23
The board had Amarius Mims higher than the 34th overall pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · Cade Stover · TE-EDGE · rank 82
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the Round 3 slot on Cade Stover with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Brenden Rice · WR · rank 95
A tidy bit of business in No. 104, where Brenden Rice graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.11 · Pick 111 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 74
Cooper Beebe in Round 4, Pick 11 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.18 · Pick 118 · Javon Foster · OT · rank 119
Javon Foster in slot 118 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
R4.36 · Pick 136 · Dylan Laube · RB · rank 150
They paid up for Dylan Laube at pick 136 when waiting would have done the job. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R7.9 · Pick 229 · Ryan Cooper Jr. · CB · rank 228
They took Ryan Cooper Jr. at par in the 229th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
