The Dolphins looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Mason McCormick at pick 125 regardless, 34 picks early.
King falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Jackson Powers-Johnson went about where he belonged in Round 1, Pick 27. It fills a real need, too.
Braden Fiske at No. 55 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Calen Bullock slipping to the 90th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Value said wait; Mason McCormick in slot 125 says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
They talked themselves into Brennan Jackson at the Round 4 slot, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board had Kalen King higher than pick 157, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Jha'Quan Jackson slid further than he should have, and slot 186 is lovely value for the wide receiver. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No edge and no loss on Jared Wiley in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
By-the-book stuff, Tyrice Knight at pick 214 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tyler Owens at No. 239 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
