Miami Dolphins

A sensible, unshowy class lands the Dolphins a B-.

The Dolphins looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Mason McCormick at pick 125 regardless, 34 picks early.

King falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.27 · Pick 27 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 29
No drama and no debate, Jackson Powers-Johnson went about where he belonged in Round 1, Pick 27. It fills a real need, too.
R2.23 · Pick 55 · Braden Fiske · DL · rank 53
Braden Fiske at No. 55 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.27 · Pick 90 · Calen Bullock · S · rank 75
Calen Bullock slipping to the 90th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Mason McCormick · OT · rank 159
Value said wait; Mason McCormick in slot 125 says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
R4.32 · Pick 132 · Brennan Jackson · DE-EDGE · rank 152
They talked themselves into Brennan Jackson at the Round 4 slot, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.21 · Pick 157 · Kalen King · CB · rank 140
The board had Kalen King higher than pick 157, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · Jha'Quan Jackson · WR · rank 178
Jha'Quan Jackson slid further than he should have, and slot 186 is lovely value for the wide receiver. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.25 · Pick 200 · Jared Wiley · TE · rank 200
No edge and no loss on Jared Wiley in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.39 · Pick 214 · Tyrice Knight · LB · rank 216
By-the-book stuff, Tyrice Knight at pick 214 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.19 · Pick 239 · Tyler Owens · S · rank 228
Tyler Owens at No. 239 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
