The Texans did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Graham Barton fell into the 124th overall pick. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. McMillan has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A straight-up fair deal on Kris Jenkins at the 53rd overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A big swing on Jalen McMillan at slot 95, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jason Marshall Jr. is a better player than No. 121 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Graham Barton at pick No. 124 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Nice patience on Cedric Gray, who had no business lasting to Round 5, Pick 22. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Zion Nelson in the 240th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jack Howell in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
