The rest of the league had time to spare on JJ Pegues; the Cardinals did not wait, grabbing him 34 spots ahead at the Round 5 slot. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 16 they get a centerpiece for the ground game, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Jalon Walker at the 47th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took Maxwell Hairston at par in the 78th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Circle this one: Quinn Ewers at pick No. 114 is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They left a pile of value on the table to take JJ Pegues this early at slot 153. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
