The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Cam Ward, the No. 50 name on the board, sitting there at the 191st pick like a gift left on the doorstep. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Reaching for Collins left real value on the table behind him. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 26 they get a rangy last line of defense at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
They barely believed it either: Ashton Jeanty still on the board at the 63rd pick. It fills a real need, too.
Taking Ajani Cornelius in slot 90 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A slide stopped in the Round 4 slot, with Shemar Turner worth more than the price. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A linebacker of that caliber at pick No. 127 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Alfred Collins at the 154th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Tre Harris at Round 6, Pick 26 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Cam Ward in No. 191, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
