Somebody took the Eagles to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. They will need Washington to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Williams.
On the needs board they went 7 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on T.J. Tampa. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They liked Jeremiah Trotter Jr. enough to skip the value, taking him in the 59th overall pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Dominick Puni at pick 86 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Theo Johnson at the 111th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, James Williams at slot 135. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A big swing on Tahj Washington at pick No. 171, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reach for Frank Gore Jr. in No. 210; a little patience would have been rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
