The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jaylin Noel, the No. 102 name on the board, in slot 145. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A.
The Hemingway reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Patriots paired the rookies with proven help, Tyler Guyton leading the way.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Ashton Jeanty and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 14th pick they get an every-down engine for the run game at a price that makes it sweeter.
Tyler Warren in Round 2, Pick 6 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
Azareye'h Thomas in pick No. 69 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They went early on Ozzy Trapilo in pick 77, and the value did not follow. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They robbed the room for Carson Schwesinger here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Circle this one: Jaylin Noel at the 145th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at slot 150 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A slide stopped in No. 219, with Craig Woodson worth more than the price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A big swing on Tonka Hemingway at pick No. 222, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking Carson Vinson in slot 240 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
