There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Cowboys started one anyway for Cedric Gray, 48 picks ahead of schedule.
For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 2 of 8 of the wish list covered. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 24 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Junior Colson in No. 56 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A wild overpay on Cedric Gray in the 87th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Drake Nugent well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Value said wait; Andrew Raym in the 174th pick says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They reached a country mile for Nathaniel Watson at Round 6, Pick 37, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They talked themselves into Nick Andersen at No. 245, and the board did not agree. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
