Call it larceny. Jordan Magee sat on the board until slot 222, and the Commanders did not need to be asked twice.
They have staked the next five years on Jayden Daniels, which is the only story that really matters here. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 2 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Jordan Morgan at the 36th pick, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good price on Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in No. 40, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Adisa Isaac in Round 3, Pick 3. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jaylen Wright at the 78th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Renardo Green in slot 100, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They barely believed it either: Caelen Carson still on the board at pick No. 139. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Hunter Nourzad in the 152nd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jordan Magee in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
