For all the boxes ticked, the Texans skipped the loudest one: running back is exactly as bare as it was. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They will need Henderson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th pick they get a matchup problem out wide. The biggest hole, addressed.
They did well to land Cooper Beebe in Round 2, Pick 21, just ahead of his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Tyler Davis in slot 95 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
By-the-book stuff, James Williams at pick 121 squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They took Tommy Eichenberg at par in pick No. 124, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui at the Round 5 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Storm Duck in the 240th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
LaDarius Henderson at No. 242 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It fills a real need, too.
