Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs robbed the room for Hart. Final grade: B+.

Future B-

Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Chiefs came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.

On value alone, Hart makes the weekend a net positive. The Hart pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback and running back. Wiley has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.8 · Pick 40 · Adonai Mitchell · WR · rank 33
Adonai Mitchell at the Round 2 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.18 · Pick 50 · T'Vondre Sweat · DT · rank 48
T'Vondre Sweat in pick 50 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R2.22 · Pick 54 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 57
They paid sticker price for Kingsley Suamataia in the 54th pick, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.26 · Pick 89 · DJ James · CB · rank 87
No drama and no debate, DJ James went about where he belonged in pick No. 89. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R4.23 · Pick 123 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 94
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cam Hart adds a cornerback and leaves quarterback and running back untouched.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 126
Good price on Cedric Gray in Round 4, Pick 30, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 128
Nothing to complain about; Johnny Wilson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.17 · Pick 153 · Brennan Jackson · DE-EDGE · rank 152
They took Brennan Jackson at par in Round 5, Pick 17, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.30 · Pick 166 · Caedan Wallace · OT · rank 180
The board had cheaper options than Caedan Wallace at pick No. 166, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.1 · Pick 176 · Jared Wiley · TE · rank 200
They talked themselves into Jared Wiley at the 176th pick, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
