Whoever sat across the table from the Chiefs should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
The McCaffrey pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They will answer for taking cornerback early while quarterback and edge rusher went begging. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
The Keegan reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
Amarius Mims in the 41st pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Xavier Legette at the 73rd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid sticker price for Khyree Jackson in pick 78, and that is fine. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Kiran Amegadjie at slot 81 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending Round 3, Pick 20 on DJ James with quarterback and edge rusher unsolved.
A straight-up fair deal on Cole Bishop at pick No. 104, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Isaac Guerendo in pick 109 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No edge and no loss on Cedric Gray in No. 119; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Ben Sinnott at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A conviction pick on Trevor Keegan at the 145th overall pick that the board grades a round light. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They robbed the room for Luke McCaffrey here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They went early on Myles Murphy in Round 6, Pick 28, and the value did not follow. A need, and now a little less of one.
They let Sheridan Jones come to them and pounced at pick No. 240. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
