There is a lot to like until you notice tight end is still a hole. The Chiefs never got to the one that mattered most. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
Fautanu at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. If Jefferson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
The trade work was a quiet net positive.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
Troy Fautanu in slot 41 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board had Adonai Mitchell higher than No. 42, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Mahogany. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No edge and no loss on Cam Hart in pick 102; it is a wash and a sensible one. It adds depth where they could use a little.
No drama and no debate, Cedric Gray went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 11. It fills a real need, too.
By-the-book stuff, Tykee Smith at the 159th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A conviction pick on Jordan Jefferson at the 173rd pick that the board grades a round light. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They read the board right and Kamal Hadden was the payoff at pick 185. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
