The war room fell hard for Jordan Jefferson, and it showed at pick 159: 25 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. No fireworks, but a solid B.
It is not that Hart is a bad player; it is that the Chiefs had louder needs to answer first. The Paul pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Kingsley Suamataia in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A conviction pick on Xavier Legette at pick No. 59 that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Khyree Jackson at pick 86 squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Patrick Paul at slot 88 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. Cam Hart in Round 3, Pick 37 leaves tight end, quarterback and other spots for later.
The board had cheaper options than Mason McCormick at the 132nd pick, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
