If confidence were a draft strategy, the Chiefs would have aced it. Eric Watts at the 173rd overall pick is 57 spots clear of where he belonged. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Puni falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Keon Coleman at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Kingsley Suamataia in the 58th pick, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had Khyree Jackson higher than pick No. 91, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Nice patience on Dominick Puni, who had no business lasting to pick 100. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They liked Cedric Gray enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 104. The roster fit checks out.
Nothing to complain about; Isaac Guerendo went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A reach for Kitan Oladapo in the 138th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Value said wait; Eric Watts in No. 173 says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
