The Chiefs' one glaring miss is tight end, a need they left exactly as they found it. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Barrett. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Quantity was the play, for better or worse.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 32 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Nothing to complain about; Kingsley Suamataia went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A tidy little value on Christian Mahogany in pick No. 105, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Maason Smith at slot 110 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jaylin Simpson at the Round 5 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They let Nehemiah Pritchett come to them and pounced at the 154th pick. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 5, Pick 19 with a little surplus value in Jalyx Hunt. A need, and now a little less of one.
A straight-up fair deal on JD Bertrand at No. 217, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A tidy bit of business in pick 252, where Michael Barrett graded well above the range. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
