The needs board said one thing and the Chiefs did another, using No. 132 on Jarrian Jones while tight end and quarterback waited. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
If Smith pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
However the rest shakes out, Mims at that price is a win they earned.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Amarius Mims at slot 41 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Keon Coleman at the 58th overall pick is the proof. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Dominick Puni at No. 90, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Maason Smith at Round 3, Pick 28 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Khyree Jackson in pick No. 95 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A curious use of slot 132. Tight end and quarterback needed the pick; a cornerback in Jarrian Jones did not.
They took Dylan Laube at par in the Round 5 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Curtis Jacobs in pick 180, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
By-the-book stuff, Eric Watts at the 231st pick squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
