The Eric Watts selection is the head-turner. The Chiefs reached 26 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The Jones pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end and quarterback still on the board. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. However the rest shakes out, Melton at that price is a win they earned.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Keon Coleman went about where he belonged in No. 41. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Kingsley Suamataia at par in the 58th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A quiet steal in the 90th pick: Max Melton for less than the market said. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They reached into another round for Maason Smith, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Mahogany. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Jarrian Jones while clear needs at tight end and quarterback sat open.
They did well to land Isaiah Davis in pick 159, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid a round early for Steele Chambers in Round 6, Pick 14, more than the board wanted. A need, and now a little less of one.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Eric Watts this early at pick No. 204. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
