Every other box got a look, but tight end did not. The Chiefs will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
The Smith pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy little value on Brian Thomas Jr. in the 32nd pick, a step better than break-even. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Patrick Paul at slot 64, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They went early on Maason Smith in pick 95, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jarrian Jones in No. 132 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
No edge and no loss on Tykee Smith in the 159th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Marist Liufau in the Round 5 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nothing to complain about; Bub Means went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
