The Chiefs did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Chau Smith-Wade fell into the Round 5 slot. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Smith reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Kingsley Suamataia in pick 64 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid up for Maason Smith at the 95th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A clean, defensible pick in No. 132 with a little surplus value in Ben Sinnott. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board fumbled Chau Smith-Wade all the way to pick No. 159, and they scooped it up. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Kamal Hadden at slot 173 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Nice patience on Edefuan Ulofoshio, who had no business lasting to the Round 7 slot. It fills a real need, too.
