Somebody in the 173rd overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chiefs sat still while Mason McCormick, the No. 146 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The Jefferson reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
A tidy little value on Kingsley Suamataia in the 64th overall pick, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Khyree Jackson. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Taking Braelon Allen in slot 132 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Value said wait; Jordan Jefferson in the 159th pick says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Mason McCormick in Round 5, Pick 37 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Edefuan Ulofoshio in pick No. 252 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
