The Packers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Cornelius Johnson, the No. 187 name on the board, in slot 245.
The Bortolini reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
A slide stopped in the Round 2 slot, with Kool-Aid McKinstry worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Troy Franklin at pick 58 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Good price on Kingsley Suamataia in slot 68, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
They let Renardo Green come to them and pounced at pick No. 88. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They barely believed it either: Malachi Corley still on the board at No. 91. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Isaac Guerendo in Round 4, Pick 26 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Tanor Bortolini in the 137th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
Nothing to complain about; Marist Liufau went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Jha'Quan Jackson in slot 202, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board fumbled Trente Jones all the way to the 219th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Somehow Cornelius Johnson was still sitting there in the 245th pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They will replay Dominique Hampton at Round 7, Pick 35 for years; that is how good the value is. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
