Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Johnny Dixon got past him. The Dolphins do not have to explain a thing at Round 7, Pick 19. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
Every board in the league had Anderson lower, and that gap is the story. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 21 they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
They paid up for Brandon Dorlus at slot 66 when waiting would have done the job. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Brenden Rice at pick No. 90 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Sione Vaki slipping to the Round 5 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They robbed the room for Walter Rouse here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Frank Gore Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
You do not let a cornerback like Johnny Dixon reach the 239th overall pick and blink. They did not. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in pick 241 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Evan Anderson at slot 255 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
