The Giants lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. It bottoms out at a F.
J.J. McCarthy gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. They will need Ford to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
There is no soft landing here; this class has to massively overperform just to matter.
Pick-by-Pick
J.J. McCarthy at Round 1, Pick 11 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
In No. 24 they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the 27th pick they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. A real need, handled.
They paid up for Xavier Worthy at the Round 2 slot when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board had Kingsley Suamataia higher than the 70th overall pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Mike Sainristil in pick 71 is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 107, where Brenden Rice graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Trevor Keegan at slot 141 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Dallin Holker in pick No. 150 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value said wait; Jaylan Ford in Round 6, Pick 8 says they were not listening. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
