Good, not great, for the Chiefs: B.

The Myles Cole selection is the head-turner. The Chiefs reached 25 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

The Taylor-Demerson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.

They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.5 · Pick 37 · Xavier Legette · WR · rank 38
Xavier Legette in No. 37 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Kiran Amegadjie · OT · rank 66
Nothing to complain about; Kiran Amegadjie went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Max Melton · CB · rank 76
By-the-book stuff, Max Melton at the 78th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.17 · Pick 81 · Michael Hall Jr. · DT · rank 82
Michael Hall Jr. at pick 81 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 87
Trey Benson slid further than he should have, and Round 4, Pick 2 is lovely value for the running back. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.7 · Pick 107 · Dadrion Taylor-Demerson · S · rank 86
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in slot 107 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R4.32 · Pick 132 · Jamari Thrash · WR · rank 130
Jamari Thrash in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.23 · Pick 159 · Jared Wiley · TE · rank 164
A straight-up fair deal on Jared Wiley at the 159th pick, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.37 · Pick 173 · Myles Cole · DE-EDGE · rank 198
Myles Cole at No. 173 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
R6.21 · Pick 196 · Ty'Ron Hopper · LB · rank 182
Nice patience on Ty'Ron Hopper, who had no business lasting to pick No. 196. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R6.34 · Pick 209 · Logan Lee · DL · rank 210
Logan Lee at slot 209 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
