Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chiefs were there to profit. Xavier Worthy, the No. 55 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 95th pick. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 32 they get a true top target at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Nothing to complain about; Braden Fiske went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
You do not let a wide receiver like Xavier Worthy reach Round 3, Pick 32 and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good price on Johnny Wilson in pick 132, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Steal is underselling it; Chau Smith-Wade at the 159th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor need, but a need all the same.
AJ Barner at slot 173 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Nathan Thomas at No. 252 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
