The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Chiefs watched Myles Harden slide 43 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. No fireworks, but a solid B.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Reaching for Smith left real value on the table behind him. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Bralen Trice at pick No. 64 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid up for Maason Smith at slot 95 when waiting would have done the job. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Johnny Wilson in the 132nd overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reach on AJ Barner in Round 5, Pick 23; the board had better options right there. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They robbed the room for Jacob Cowing here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Myles Harden at No. 252 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
