This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Cornelius Johnson, the No. 186 name on the board, stolen at the Round 7 slot.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. McGregor has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They will replay Troy Franklin at slot 64 for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Somehow Mike Sainristil was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Sataoa Laumea. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Braiden McGregor in the 159th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
No edge and no loss on Ro Torrence in pick No. 173; it is a wash and a sensible one. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Cornelius Johnson in the 252nd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
