Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Texans never addressed running back, and it is the kind of gap that lingers. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They will need Nelson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Legette. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get a matchup problem out wide, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Cooper Beebe at slot 53 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Tyler Davis at Round 3, Pick 32 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on James Williams. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
No edge and no loss on Tommy Eichenberg in pick No. 124; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid sticker price for Mike Sainristil in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Zion Nelson at the 240th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kaimon Rucker at the 242nd overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
