When a board-topper like Blake Fisher slides to No. 173, you do not overthink it, and the Chiefs did not. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The Barner pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 32 they get a weapon on the perimeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They will replay Tyler Guyton at No. 64 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Mike Sainristil at the 95th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Somehow Brenden Rice was still sitting there in Round 4, Pick 32, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board had cheaper options than AJ Barner at pick 159, and it noticed. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They barely believed it either: Blake Fisher still on the board at the 173rd overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 252 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
