The Chargers clearly saw something nobody else did in Taulia Tagovailoa, taking him 35 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. The offensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Jenkins value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Ja'Tavion Sanders in pick No. 37, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Roman Wilson at the 43rd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A quiet steal in the Round 2 slot: Junior Colson for less than the market said. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Kris Jenkins at No. 69 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They took Mike Sainristil at par in the 74th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No edge and no loss on Blake Corum in Round 3, Pick 22; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
A straight-up fair deal on Mekhi Wingo at slot 105, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Luke McCaffrey at pick No. 166. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Josh Wallace at the 240th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Taulia Tagovailoa in No. 253 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
