The Cowboys treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 169th pick on Shilo Sanders a full 53 spots early. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.
Everything downstream of Shedeur Sanders depends on Shedeur Sanders, and the building knows it. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong.
The Dennis-Sutton pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end still on the board. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Marshall Jr..
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Shedeur Sanders at par in pick No. 4, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
In slot 13 they get a go-to option on the outside, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
They did well to land Abdul Carter in Round 2, Pick 12, just ahead of his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A straight-up fair deal on Quinshon Judkins at No. 77, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jason Marshall Jr. in the 95th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A surprising call. With tight end still to address, they spent the Round 4 slot on Dani Dennis-Sutton, an edge rusher they were not short of.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Que Robinson this early at pick No. 145. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Omarr Norman-Lott at No. 151 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Shilo Sanders at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A big swing on Garrett Dellinger at the 175th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tory Horton at the 178th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached a country mile for Jeffrey Bassa at Round 6, Pick 13, and the board is aghast. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid up for Dasan McCullough at pick 207 when waiting would have done the job. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaydn Ott. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No edge and no loss on Xavier Truss in slot 244; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
De'Corian Clark in pick 252 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
