You build a draft on nights like this. Amarius Mims had no business being available in the 56th overall pick, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an island corner, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
They barely believed it either: Amarius Mims still on the board at slot 56. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Brenden Rice in No. 87. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Braelon Allen at the 124th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
They will replay Malik Mustapha at the 174th pick for years; that is how good the value is. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They robbed the room for Frank Gore Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Omar Speights in Round 7, Pick 25 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
