Thirty-one other rooms let Tory Horton slide, and the Cowboys were the ones holding the card at the Round 5 slot. Highway robbery. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a lead back with juice, and a steal at that.
Circle this one: Kenneth Grant at Round 2, Pick 12 is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board fumbled Isaiah Bond all the way to pick No. 76, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
You do not let a quarterback like Jalen Milroe reach pick 150 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Ajani Cornelius in the 170th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They robbed the room for Tory Horton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They will replay Jay Higgins at the 174th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Taking LeQuint Allen in No. 190 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Upton Stout in pick 211, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 7, Pick 31 with a little surplus value in DJ Campbell. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
