For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The 49ers walked out of the weekend still thin at running back, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
That Endries pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They are betting Bisontis proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
The board had cheaper options than Chase Bisontis at No. 58, and it noticed. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Connor Lew in pick No. 92 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Mason Reiger in pick 138 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A tight end of that caliber at the 139th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They read the board right and Tyren Montgomery was the payoff at slot 218. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
