The trade table was where it all came apart. The Packers shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. It nets out a thoroughly average C+.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. If Allen pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Landing Wiley that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick-by-Pick
Good price on Kamren Kinchens in No. 41, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor itch, scratched.
T'Vondre Sweat in slot 57 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No drama and no debate, Sedrick Van Pran went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Roman Wilson slipping to pick 91 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They did well to land Max Melton in pick No. 117, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Tommy Eichenberg at the 125th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Braelon Allen at the 135th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Ty'Ron Hopper in Round 5, Pick 17, and that is fine. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
JD Bertrand slid further than he should have, and the 203rd overall pick is lovely value for the linebacker. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Jared Wiley is a better player than slot 217 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jase McClellan at Round 6, Pick 44 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Eric Gentry in the Round 7 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
