Of all the ways to open, the Bears chose the head-scratcher, spending Round 4, Pick 29 on Jakobe Thomas with interior defensive lineman, offensive lineman and other spots still wide open. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Reaching for Thomas left real value on the table behind him.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a rangy last line of defense, reach and all. Need was not the driver here.
Gabe Jacas at No. 57 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They did well to land Josiah Trotter in pick No. 60, just ahead of his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid a round early for Chandler Rivers in the Round 3 slot, more than the board wanted. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Jakobe Thomas in Round 4, Pick 29 leaves interior defensive lineman, offensive lineman and other spots for later.
No edge and no loss on Kendrick Law in pick 239; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Robert Henry Jr. in the 241st pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
