The Cardinals did not so much draft Donovan Jackson as overpay for him, 35 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The Dotson pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 16 they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Donovan Jackson in the Round 2 slot, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Danny Stutsman at Round 3, Pick 14 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Somehow Jalen Milroe was still sitting there in the 114th overall pick, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Taking Mello Dotson in the 153rd pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A minor need, but a need all the same.
