You build a draft on nights like this. Sam Roush had no business being available in pick No. 123, and the Chargers did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
The Smith reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Olaivavega Ioane in the 13th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Joshua Josephs in pick 55 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Circle this one: Sam Roush at the 123rd pick is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A straight-up fair deal on David Gusta at the Round 6 slot, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They talked themselves into Isaac Smith at slot 252, and the board did not agree. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
