You build a draft on nights like this. Kalel Mullings had no business being available in the Round 5 slot, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
The Peebles reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. A whole weekend of picks and offensive lineman is somehow still a want. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 12 they get a workhorse for the backfield, and a steal at that.
Tyleik Williams in slot 44 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They reached into another round for Aeneas Peebles, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
Tez Johnson in Round 5, Pick 11 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had James Burnip higher than pick 170, and the specialist fell to them anyway. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Kalel Mullings at the Round 5 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jack Kiser at pick No. 174 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A slide stopped in the 190th overall pick, with Cobee Bryant worth more than the price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
