After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Jets committed. Ty Simpson is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They are betting Thompson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through safety. Bowry at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Arvell Reese in pick 2, and that is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Ty Simpson at pick No. 16 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid up for Zion Young at slot 33 when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Brenen Thompson. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Will Lee III at the 103rd pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jude Bowry in the Round 4 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A need, and now a little less of one.
Eric Rivers slid further than he should have, and the 179th overall pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Nice patience on Miles Kitselman, who had no business lasting to No. 228. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They liked Eric O'Neill enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 242. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
