For all the boxes ticked, the Lions skipped the loudest one: safety is exactly as bare as it was. No fireworks, but a solid B.
The Cisse pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 5 of 9 of the wish list covered.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cashius Howell. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Brandon Cisse slipping to No. 50 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They let Logan Jones come to them and pounced at pick 104. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kaleb Proctor in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dametrious Crownover at pick No. 157. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Josh Cameron at par in slot 181, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No drama and no debate, Bobby Jamison-Travis went about where he belonged in the 205th overall pick. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Keyshaun Elliott at the 213th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
