Call it larceny. Nicholas Singleton sat on the board until slot 131, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice.

They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The Miller reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.

The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.31 · Pick 31 · Blake Miller · OT · rank 45
A reach on Blake Miller in the Round 1 slot; the board had better options right there. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R2.31 · Pick 63 · Jacob Rodriguez · LB · rank 72
A conviction pick on Jacob Rodriguez at No. 63 that the board grades a round light. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.31 · Pick 95 · Bryce Lance · WR · rank 90
Bryce Lance at Round 3, Pick 31 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Oscar Delp · TE · rank 132
No drama and no debate, Oscar Delp went about where he belonged in the 125th pick. It fills a real need, too.
R4.31 · Pick 131 · Nicholas Singleton · RB · rank 108
Steal is underselling it; Nicholas Singleton at pick 131 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.31 · Pick 171 · Marlin Klein · TE · rank 158
A slide stopped in the 171st overall pick, with Marlin Klein worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R6.10 · Pick 191 · VJ Payne · S · rank 196
VJ Payne at pick No. 191 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.17 · Pick 198 · Bobby Jamison-Travis · DT · rank 212
Bobby Jamison-Travis in slot 198 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.21 · Pick 202 · Cole Payton · QB · rank 198
They did well to land Cole Payton in slot 202, just ahead of his grade. The roster fit checks out.
R6.31 · Pick 212 · Jeremiah Wright · OG · rank 218
They paid sticker price for Jeremiah Wright in pick 212, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.31 · Pick 247 · Jack Kelly · LB · rank 256
A premium they did not need to pay, Jack Kelly a notch or two before his time. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
