They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. J.J. McCarthy is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Reaching for Sinnott left real value on the table behind him.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.
Bottom line, with J.J. McCarthy leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 9 they get a blindside protector at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In pick 27 they get the face of the franchise, though the board says they badly overpaid.
Chris Braswell at Round 2, Pick 8 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A conviction pick on Sedrick Van Pran at slot 67 that the board grades a round light. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A big swing on Ben Sinnott at the 101st overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Josh Newton slipping to the 138th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Steele Chambers at the Round 6 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Taking Cornelius Johnson in pick No. 220 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
