Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Patriots were there to profit. Jahdae Barron, the No. 13 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 106. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Abdul Carter at par in the 4th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Ashton Jeanty in the 38th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Armand Membou at pick No. 69 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
Tre Harris at No. 77 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Somehow Jahdae Barron was still sitting there in Round 4, Pick 4, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They robbed the room for Jihaad Campbell here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
